Position Title:  Web Manager   

Department: Communications  

Reports to: Director, Web & New Media

Position summary: 

The Web Manager will be responsible for managing BIO’s web properties (including the organization’s primary site BIO.org and blog Biotech NOW), e-newsletters (including the BIO Newsletter), as well as contributing to other online communications and social media efforts. This position will play a key role in creating and cultivating new web content and ensuring that sections of the site display the most relevant information. The Web Manager will also provide technical support to other BIO staff and play a supporting role in guiding BIO’s web strategy.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Creating and cultivating new web content, managing and enhancing existing web content
  • Filming, producing, and posting short in-house videos that promote BIO’s educational and advocacy messages
  • Researching, writing, and maintaining content for BIO’ sites, ensuring that material is written in an appropriate style and tone for the audience it serves
  • Writing, producing and sending email newsletters
  • Remaining up-to-date with best practices, new content development/management strategies, and knowledge of social media
  • Writing and editing user documentation to help BIO staff edit and create content on BIO web properties
  • Providing tier 1 support to BIO staff in creating web content and e-newsletters
  • Working closely with contributors to ensure that content is of good quality, properly sources and  accurate to ensure consistent messaging across the BIO websites
  • Helping set overall guidelines and standards for web sites and for contributors in terms of tone, style, voice, use of language, "web" writing, etc.
  • Assisting in tracking and analyzing web and email traffic to inform the content strategy and future directions
  • Ensuring content on BIO websites is up-to-date, the links are live and the site is generally well maintained
  • Managing external vendors to ensure that projects are managed in appropriate timeframes
  • Proven writing, editing, and verbal skills demonstrating a strong command of English, with an ability to convey complex ideas in a clear, direct, and engaging style
  • Extensive experience writing and editing for the web
  • Experience shooting and editing digital video and audio
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, HTML, and CSS. Knowledge of additional web programming languages a plus
  • Knowledge of digital editing software (Adobe Premiere, or similar)
  • Excellent project management skills strategic thinker and team player
  • Experience using social media tools
  • Must be able to work independently and with minimal guidance.
 
 
Requirements:
 
  • Proven writing, editing, and verbal skills demonstrating a strong command of English, with an ability to convey complex ideas in a clear, direct, and engaging style
  • Extensive experience writing and editing for the web
  • Experience shooting and editing digital video and audio
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, HTML, and CSS. Knowledge of additional web programming languages a plus
  • Knowledge of digital editing software (Adobe Premiere, or similar)
  • Excellent project management skills strategic thinker and team player
  • Experience using social media tools
  • Must be able to work independently and with minimal guidance.
  • Bachelors degree in journalism, communications, or communications technology
  • Five plus years of relevant professional experience in online publishing, web management, and/or video production
  • Strong diplomatic and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work efficiently under stress and to juggle multiple tasks under deadlines
