Climate Change

Vigorous government support has played a key role in encouraging China’s development of a bio-based economy, especially in regard to biofuels.

BIO released a white paper on the growth and jobs potential of green chemicals.

Recently introduced legislation could help the military become the technology leader in scaling up commercial production of sustainable biofuels, such as algae.

During today’s plenary lunch session at BIO's 2011 World Congress in Toronto, Royal DSM CEO Feike Sijbesma gave a passionate keynote address and accepted the 2011 George Washington Carver Award for his company’s efforts to promote bio-based products over those relying on fossil-fuel resources.

BIO has named Feike Sijbesma as the recipient of its 2011 George Washington Carver Award for innovation in industrial biotechnology.

Biotechnology is all around us and is already a big part of our lives, providing breakthrough products and technologies to combat disease, reduce our environmental footprint, feed the hungry, and make useful products.

Biotechnology is everywhere you look - even in places you might not expect.

Can the biotechnology industry feed a hungry world?

Drivers who are concerned about the environment are finding it's getting easier to use a biofuel that really is green.

We are writing to caution against granting a waiver for the federal Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS). A number of groups and some governors seem to believe that the RFS is a substantial part of the equation when it comes to grain prices, and waiving the program this year or next will ease the impact of the drought on consumers. There is substantial evidence to the contrary.

Decreasing use of biofuels will automatically increase use of more carbon intensive petroleum sources. The increased emissions from the transportation sector would come very close to wiping out the reductions of the past four years, according to a BIO study.
