She is also a Founding Director of SatyaGyan Foundation, a non-profit organization that aims to alleviate poverty through education and employment.

Dr. Poonawalla is Chairman of the Poonawalla Group, diversified in manufacture of biologicals, horse breeding, real estate, finance, etc.

He is the CMD of Serum Institute of India (SII), which provides affordable vaccines at low cost to more than 140 countries worldwide. SII is India’s number one biotech company and the largest manufacturer in the world of several vaccines such as Measles, Tetanus, Diphtheria, Whooping Cough, Hepatitis, Haemophilus Influenzae type B vaccine, etc.

He was awarded Padma Shree in 2005 and the Sabin Humanitarian Award and Sabin Corporate Philanthropy Award, amongst several other prestigious awards.
