The 2014 BIO Pacific Rim Summit Plenary Program will feature a line-up of leading industry executives. Three plenary sessions will highlight the latest in next gen biorefineries, renewable chemicals, biofuels, feedstocks, synthetic biology and building a sustainable biobased industry. The 2014 program will be posted in the fall.

Building a Successful Chemicals Business Across the Pacific Rim

This panel explored the five key ingredients to building a successful chemicals business in the Pacific Rim.  Our high level speakers discussed the importance of securing feedstock supplies, the role of investors in determining the scope of the project, the necessity of strategic partnerships for technology developers, and finally the requirements to successfully convert chemicals into marketable end use products.

Life at the Speed of Light

Noted biochemist and businessman Craig Venter has been a leading pioneer in not only the human genome bur also in industrial biotechnology.  At the 2013 BIO Pacific Rim Summit he delivered an inspirational keynote address entitled Life at the Speed of Light on new discoveries at the intersection of synthetic biology, computational science and industrial biotechnology.

The Golden Age of Gas

Innovative biotech companies are beginning to use non-biomass feedstocks such as industrial hydrocarbon gas and even fracking gas to produce bioproducts.  This panel examined what makes these technologies a smart investment, the environmental implications from increased demand on the gas supply, and how these technologies find a path forward in policy frameworks that currently fail to include them.
