BIO Announces Additional Plenary Sessions and Speakers for 2010 Pacific Rim Summit on Industrial Biotech and Bioenergy

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Tuesday, November 02, 2010) - The Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) today announced additional speakers for plenary sessions on future drop-in transportation and aviation biofuels, potential advances in algae and marine biotechnology and efforts to commercialize renewable chemicals. Newly confirmed plenary session speakers include:

Brent Erickson, executive vice president of BIO’s Industrial & Environmental Section, stated, “The growing list of international thought leaders, policy makers and entrepreneurs from leading companies and research organizations promise to make the Pacific Rim Summit one of the most vital conferences of the year. Countries throughout the Asia-Pacific region are racing to secure their place in the growing bioeconomy, and the Pacific Rim Summit will showcase progress in the technology enabling that growth.

“Hawaii’s central location within the Pacific region and its leadership in seeking renewable energy solutions make it an ideal location for this regional summit. Over the years, the Pacific Rim Summit has brought together scientists and industrial developers for collaboration and an exchange of ideas.”

Now in its fifth year, the Pacific Rim Summit on Industrial Biotechnology and Bioenergy will address the latest issues in industrial biotechnology, including algae, advanced biofuels, biopolymers and bioplastics, dedicated energy crops, green chemistry, and synthetic biology.
