BIO Issues Call for Applications to Present at Fourth Annual Mid-America VentureForum

Annual Event Provides Opportunity for Fund-Seeking Biotechnology Companies to Present Business Plans Before Hundreds of Venture Capitalists

WASHINGTON, D.C. (May 30, 2006) -- The Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) announced today that start-up biotechnology and medical device companies seeking funding from venture capitalists are invited to apply to present at the fourth annual BIO Mid-America VentureForum, being held September 25-27th at the InterContinental Hotel in Cleveland, Ohio.

The BIO Mid-America VentureForum is the Midwest’s largest annual event, bringing together biotechnology and medical device companies, venture capitalists, angel investors, and investment bankers from across the U.S. and Canada. All privately held biotechnology and medical device companies seeking early- to late-stage funding are invited to apply to present their business plans to investors.  The application is accessible online at http://bma.bio.org/opencms/bma/2006/registration/presenter.jsp

An advisory board consisting of representatives from the nation’s leading venture capital firms will evaluate the applications and select approximately 75 companies to present at this year’s event, expected to attract more than 500 attendees.  Companies that presented at the 2005 event attracted a combined total of over $119 million in venture capital.

Companies that are selected to present will be invited to participate in a “boot camp” workshop where senior executives receive presentation assistance and tips for effectively reaching venture capitalists during the conference.

Applications are due June 9.  Applications received after June 9 will be accepted only if space permits.

The BIO Mid-America VentureForum is co-hosted by BIO and eight state biotechnology associations: Omeris, Colorado BioScience Association, the Illinois Biotechnology Industry Organization, Indiana Health Industry Forum, Iowa Biotechnology Association, LifeScience Alley, Missouri Biotechnology Association, and the Wisconsin Biotechnology Association.
