Senator Kyl Honored as BIO Legislator of the Year

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Wednesday, April 15, 2008) - The Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) announced today its selection of Senator Jon Kyl (R-AZ) as Legislator of the Year for 2007-2008.  Senator Kyl will receive the award during the BIO Legislative Day Fly-In on April 16, 2008.

“BIO honors Senator Kyl for his leadership during the patent reform process and his ongoing support for health care issues,” BIO President and CEO Jim Greenwood said. “The Senator recognizes the value of innovative, patented new medicines and has worked tirelessly to maintain America’s gold standard of drug safety.”

“Senator Kyl has a long track record of leadership in life science research," said C. Robert Eaton, President and CEO of the Arizona BioIndustry Association. “I can’t think of anyone more deserving of this award than Senator Kyl and his staff.  Their efforts have strengthened the bioscience industry in Arizona and nationwide.”
During the BIO Legislative Day Fly-In, more than 200 biotechnology industry representatives from 36 states, including Arizona, will participate in hundreds of meetings with key Members of the House and Senate. Participants will discuss issues critical to the biotechnology industry, including follow-on biologics, FDA appropriations, biofuels, and patent reform.

The awards will be presented at 9:15 a.m. in Senator Kyl’s Washington, D.C. office.
