Position Title: Director for Regulatory Affairs
Department: Food and Agriculture
Reports to: Executive Vice President
Individual will serve as Director for Regulatory Affairs responsible for leading BIO’s biotechnology regulatory issues management, advocating for industry’s positions on regulatory policies, and working with member companies to develop tools and materials for addressing their needs.
1. Responsible for managing BIO policies and activities on a biotech issues to advance the members’ regulatory agenda.
2. Responsible for managing organization’s member company policy committee, task forces and work groups involved in regulatory issues and supporting other BIO committees as assigned to develop and implement Association policies, action plans and programs.
3. Interacts with federal agencies, Congress, stakeholders, others, on agricultural biotechnology issues in coordination with other appropriate BIO departments and sections to develop support for, and implement policies supportive of, the industry.
4. Responsible for effectively representing BIO at certain international fora on technical issues, including the Codex Alimentarius Commission.
Good working knowledge of the plant biotechnology and agriculture industries.
General knowledge of the US regulatory framework.
Superior communication (verbal and written), management and organizational skills to effectively implement the organization’s agenda.
Advanced degree preferably in biological sciences.
Minimum of 10 years of related work experience. Issues management experience in a trade association or professional society is desirable along with experience in regulatory affairs, biotechnology advocacy and consensus-building.
