He was born in Kagoshima, Japan, in 1953. He received his M.S. from Osaka University in 1979. He joined Mitsui Toatsu Chemicals, Inc.(MTC) in 1979 and undertook a research on amino acid production in the Central Research Laboratory. From 1983-1990, he worked at the City of Hope National Medical Center in the USA researching gene synthesis and was appointed Manager of MTC-America (a subsidiary of MTC) in New York concentrating on marketing and new business development in the fields of biotechnology, fine chemicals and performance materials.
From 1990-1996, he was appointed Manager of Life Sciences Business Development Division to develop amino acid derivatives and bio-materials. He also worked from 1997-2007 as Manager and Director of LACEA Business Development Dept in Mitsui Chemicals.
From 2007-2009, he worked as Deputy General Manager of Business Planning Division and Director of New Polymers Development Department in the Performance Business Sector.
