Industry Snapshot

Like other emerging industries, biotechnology has suffered ups and downs on Wall Street, but has nonetheless posted a continuous record of impressive growth. During BIO's first 10 years of operations, biotech revenues, R&D spending and employment grew dramatically, but most importantly, the number of biotech medicines and vaccines on the market climbed sixfold, to 155, as of December 31, 2002. Below are selected industry statistics. For additional information, visit BIO's Web site at www.bio.org.
