Probiotic Food Ingredients and Pharmaceuticals
ID: 3406
Abstract: There has been a rapid growth in research in the use of probiotic live bacterial cells for human health benefits. The recognition that these cells can be engineered to synthesize products that have therapeutic potential has generated considerable interest and excitement among clinicians and health professionals. It is expected that a wide array of disease modifying substrates such as cytokines, enzymes, vaccines, hormones, antibodies, growth factors, genetic products etc. can be successfully used and will impact health care substantially. This breakout track will discuss the current status of probiotic as novel functional food ingredients and pharmaceuticals.

Why should your submission should be selected for this year’s program?
There is a compelling need to look for new technologies to meet the present demands and future challenges. The proposed track will cover an important area towards exploiting the important potential of probiotic bacterial cells as novel ingredient in food and pharmaceutical products for human health benefits. This area a track focusing this area will provide excellent opportunity for interested parties form industry, business and academics participating in the meeting. The key speakers are:
1. Dr. Prakash is an expert in probiotic cell research and application. He has published 120 articles/abstracts, 22 patents, edited 1 books and work as regional editor (North America) for international journal of probiotics and prebiotics. He has developed artificial cell probiotic cholesterol lowering, fatty liver and colon cancer prevention technologies that are currently being tested in human clinical trials. He will present recent advancement in artificial cell probiotics as novel food ingredients and pharmaceuticals with emphasis on current development on probiotic cholesterol and colon health.
2.Dr. Gueniche is project director at L'OREAL which is a one of the leading skin care company in the world. Dr. Gueniche will present her experience in novel ingredient based skin care products
3. Dr. Bhathena is a Biologist in natural health products bureau at health products and food branch, Health Canada, an organization that regulates health care product in Canada. The novel foods ingredients and pharmaceutical requires that notification be made to the Health Canada. In spite of the benefits brought about by the development of novel foods, there are also a number of concerns that have been raised concerning their potential impact on the environment and on human health and safety. Dr. Bhathena will discuss these and other related issues that both organization that regulate novel food and pharmaceutical bodies and biotechnology and bio processing industry must address.
