Follow-On Biologics

Well, its official – Day 1 of the 2008 BIO International Convention has begun! We kicked off this morning with a Super Session on Follow-On Biologics – a hot topic drawing a sizeable crowd and a great interactive Q&A. The panelists presented both the innovator and follow-on biologic perspectives on scientific and regulatory issues. But the heart of the session was really a discussion about the patients. How do we achieve the balance between reducing the cost of the current medicines they need while protecting patient safety and ensuring that the industry can tackle unmet medical challenges with new treatments and devices? It’s just one more reminder that biotech is not just an esoteric science – it is an industry making an impact on  people’s lives.
