Primary Purpose of the Position:

The Biotechnology Innovation Organization (BIO) is recruiting a Manager of Digital Marketing to join the fast-paced BIO marketing team. This is an ideal position for a resourceful, strategic, technical and creative marketer who thrives in a dynamic team environment. The BIO marketing team is responsible for supporting a portfolio of conferences and events that range in size and scope.

This position will primarily manage the marketing execution for our banner annual event, the BIO International Convention, the Patient Advocacy Summit as well as support other smaller events throughout the year. The BIO International Convention is the world’s largest gathering of the biotechnology industry, regularly attracting 16,000 attendees and exhibitors. The Marketing Manager will be integral in executing a variety of digital and print tactics as well as measuring, analyzing, and reporting campaign performance. The ideal candidate should have experience in implementing digital marketing automation campaigns. This position will also support various marketing campaigns for BIO including membership and business solutions initiatives. 

CONVENTION MARKETING

  1. Develop and manage production timelines and communications to ensure successful project execution and key deadlines are met.
  2. Implement effective marketing tactics in a timely and effective fashion as outlined in the marketing plan. This includes direct mail, web advertisements, collateral/brochure materials, flyers, press releases, exhibit plans, etc.
  3. Manage and work with external design agencies/ printers on design and production. Support Marketing Director in development of onsite guide and other materials as assigned.
  4. Write copy for collateral/brochure materials and direct marketing and email marketing pieces; this includes significant time spent collecting/synthesizing program content from other databases/sources and preparing it for use by internal staff and/or external vendors and stakeholders.
  5. Lead BIO meeting presence at industry conferences/exhibitions and develop signage to ensure appropriate marketing/promotion materials are available.
  6. Works with Business Development team to understand the key marketing messages around BIO One-on-One Partnering.
  7. Work with communications team to develop press releases, blogs and social media content.
  8. Work with sales team to develop sales and sponsorship prospectus for lead generation and scoring.
  9. Participate in pre and post event meetings with BIO staff members to prepare for the event and gathers input on conference strengths and areas for improvement.
  10. Work closely with Coordinator to oversee all general marketing needs/requests are met.

MARKETING AUTOMATION (MARKETO), ADVERTISING & ANALYTICS

  1. Build and track effective email marketing campaigns for BIO International Convention (average of 15+ campaigns and 100 emails annually).
  2. Assist Director in tracking campaign statistics in Marketo and list performance, provide insight on the effectiveness of individual Convention campaigns.
  3. Measure and report performance of all digital marketing campaigns weekly, while identifying trends, and assess against goals (ROI and KPIs).
  4. Oversee and work with external vendor on digital execution for 30+ media partner deliverables (trackable HTML and digital ads).
  5. Work with the Marketing Director and Sponsorship team to develop (account-based) email marketing campaigns that support sponsorship revenue goals.
  6. Ensure sign-up forms, webinars and preference management centers are up to date in Marketo.
  7. Respond and troubleshoot Marketo data inquiries, unsubscribes, data updates and list uploads.

WEBSITE & SOCIAL MEDIA

  1. Manage convention website, write and edit HTML in content management system and work with Director and Coordinator to ensure up-to-date, effective and measurable.
  2. Collaborate and coordinate with Marketing Director and Coordinator, and team members to improve aspects of website, including user experience, landing pages, and lead generation.
  3. Provide website analytics using google analytics and other tracking software to measure effectiveness in conversions and goals.
  4. Work with Director and Coordinator to develop social and digital strategy and write copy to support efforts social media marketing channels including videos, blogs, webinars, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc with web and marketing teams.
  5. Manage adword, display advertising, and geofencing campaigns and lead creative development to drive interest and engagement for the BIO International Convention.

PATIENT HEALTH & ADVOCACY SUMMIT

  1. Develop marketing plan and oversee development of email calendar.
  2. Attend weekly meetings with planning team.
  3. Manage registration set-up, tracking, analytics and onsite registration.
  4. Manage timeline, content and production of printed onsite guide.
  5. Oversee development of website updates, social media management.
  6. Work directly with key stakeholders to promote visibility of key sponsors.

EVENT & SERVICES MARKETING SUPPORT

Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Proficient in web, HTML production and managing content in CMS
  • Proven experience management marketing timeline, developing marketing collateral
  • Independent, organized, resourceful, creative thinker and team player 
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to be flexible under pressure
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and databases
  • College degree in Marketing, Business, Communications or equivalent years of experience
  • Proficient in Marketing Automation and CRM, ideally Marketo and/or Salesforce
  • 5+ years of related work experience
  • Experience in a marketing position preferably in an association environment

Some knowledge of the biotechnology industry, science (biotechnology), the financial industry or investor relations in the health care space is preferred but not required
