Position Title: Managing Director for Alliance Development/Patient Engagement
Department: Public Affairs
Reports to: Executive Vice President, Public Affairs

Primary Purpose of the Position:

The primary purpose of this position is to build alliances with patient advocacy organizations, disease research/advocacy foundations, healthcare provider organizations, and pharmaceutical and biotechnology communities related to such groups.

Responsibilities:

  • Build alliances to help advance the objectives of the Biotechnology Innovation Organization and the overall biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry as a whole, at the state and federal levels
  • Manage, direct and allocate budget to build such alliances through donations, sponsorships, endorsements, educational fora, and joint advocacy activities.
  • Perform routine relationship management with BIO alliances through attendance at their sponsored activities, such as dinners, speeches, panels, galas, etc
  • Manage a staff of 1-2 persons
  • Serve as lead BIO staff for the BIO Board Patient Advocacy Committee and the BIO staff-level Alliance Development Committee

Requirements:

  • Excellent relationship management skills to build and maintain positive relationships with allied organizations
  • Strong managerial skills to effectively direct and organize staff in ways that advance BIO objectives
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for partnerships with BIO employees and external alliances
  • Ability to develop strategies that address the needs of unaffiliated organizations that encourage them to partner with BIO
  • Knowledge of issues and concerns of patient community
  • Strong academic training with an advanced degree preferred
  • Minimum 8+ years of relevant work experience
  • Experience within the biotechnology industry or patient community highly valuable and strongly preferred
