GMOs have been on the market for 25 years. And we know there is still a lot of confusion on the Internet and social media about what GMOs are, why farmers grow them, and what the benefits of GMOs are. GMO Answers is committed to responding to your questions about how our food is grown. Our goal is to make information about agricultural biotechnology easier to access and evaluate. To provide fact-based information and to clear up some of the misinformation about GMOs, we’ve put together 25 bite-size pieces of information about GMOs. We call it “25 Things to Know From 25 Years of GMOs.” This new resource includes:
- A description of the 13 GMOs currently on the market worldwide, including the 10 available in the United States, and interesting facts about each crop, such as traits, benefits, and impact.
- A short list of GMOs that are in research and development, with the hope of solving some of the world’s most pressing issues, including climate change, malnutrition, food insecurity, food waste, and economic development.
- A list of common misconceptions about GMOs – nope, there’s no GMO wheat or strawberries. And seedless fruit, whether watermelon or grapes, are not the result of genetic modification.
