The Biotechnology Innovation Organization (BIO) is proud to announce its Start-Up Stadium program at #BIO2019, June 3-6 in Philadelphia.  Now in its fifth year, this program is tailored to help increase engagement and visibility between all potential stakeholders as well as local, regional, national, and international affiliates, and early- stage companies at the beginning of their life-cycle within the burgeoning ecosystem in which they play.

Applications to participate in Start-up Stadium at the 2019 BIO International Convention are due by 11:59 pm EST on Friday, April 5th.

“Start-Up Stadium reaches into biotech ecosystems on a global scale,” said BIO President and CEO Jim Greenwood.  “This includes some overlooked but promising regions for biotechnology start-ups that traditionally have limited access to investors.  At BIO International Convention, entrepreneurs from all over the country and the world will get that critical exposure to investors, receive essential feedback on their businesses and make their pitch for capital.  Participants will engage with judges representing all facets of the start-up supply chain – investors, lawyers, life science executives, university leaders, and policymakers.”

Over thirty-judges from the public and private sectors with collective expertise in early-stage investing, entrepreneurship, the start-up landscape, biotechnology, healthcare, and the life sciences will make the initial finalist selections.  Once the fifty (50) finalists are selected in late April/early May, each company will be required to make a brief, two-minute video updating finalist judges on their company prior to the BIO International Convention.  Over forty (40) finalist judges will then provide live subject-matter feedback, with attention given to technologies that fill economic and consumer-based gaps in the biotechnology ecosystem.

Judges attend live presentations and engage in a Q&A, providing in-depth feedback to the finalists. Finalists participate in one of five sessions over three days. A six-minute pitch is followed by eight minutes of written and oral feedback from the judges. Through this competition, BIO is looking to provide resources that boost the biotechnology industry as well as provide a clear, successful example to stakeholders that early-stage innovation is well represented at the world’s largest biotechnology event.

In order to continually innovate and build upon the successes of previous years, BIO has again decided to kick it up a notch!  Finalist judges will be scoring each finalist company presentation and selecting a winner from each session track for a total of five winners. Then, through the graciousness of our partners, the winners will be provided with prize(s).

After the BIO International Convention, BIO will collect feedback from start-ups and judges, and analyze the increased engagement between stakeholders and early-stage communities.  In late July, BIO will follow up with finalists for product and investment status and share our finalists’ success!

BIO would like to thank our sponsors for the 2019 Start-Up Stadium program – VWR, Part of Avantor; IQVIA Biotech; City of Phoenix – without whose help and support this program wouldn’t be possible.
