Washington Gov. Jay Inslee to Keynote BIO Convention in China

October 16, 2013
Next month, BIO will be hosting our 3rd Annual BIO Convention in China, November 11-13. We are very pleased that Washington Governor Jay Inslee will be joining us as our keynote speaker on November 12.

“China is a rapidly growing market for America’s innovative biotechnology companies, including those in Washington State. As this market continues to expand, it will be increasingly important to develop collaborative relationships with the Chinese government, companies, and academic institutions. The BIO Convention is China is a wonderful venue to build those relationships, and I am very glad to be able to attend this year,” said Gov. Inslee.

Gov. Inslee has long been a strong advocate for public policies that support a thriving biotechnology sector – and the patients and consumers that our industry serves. While serving in the US House of Representatives in 2008, Gov. Inslee was named a BIO Legislator of the Year for his efforts to create an approval pathway for biosimilars.

China is Washington State’s largest export market, and represents an increasingly important market for the entire US biotech industry. With an aging population and an increasing prevalence of diseases that are treatable by biologic medicines, China is a large potential market for biologic makers. BIO teamed up with RDPAC, another industry group in China, to recommend policies for “Building a World-Class Innovative Therapeutic Biologics Industry in China.”

We’ll also be holding a policy workshop on the topic at BIO China this year. Be sure to check out our full program.
