The human biologic response to vascular injury: a complex interaction among inflammation (innate and adaptive), coagulation and acuity of the injurious stimulus
[Available On-Demand]
During this session, four discussants and the moderator will summarize the present understanding of how an almost infinite number of injurious agents or noxious stimuli can damage the human and mammalian vascular system and some of the downstream consequences of these perturbations. Not only will a variety of injuries (such as infection, physical trauma, and radiation)e be cited as the instigators of these biologic responses, but the time period over which the damages occur will be considered as possible predictor of how clinical blood vessel disease progresses. In addition, these scenarios will be expanded to include discussion of the vascular disease(s) associated with COVID-19 and thoughts about what critical vascular research will be required to characterize and understand this morbid manifestation of SARS CoV-2.
