Greg Zinkl

Greg enjoys bringing together his scientific and analytical skills in his work. A patent attorney practicing mostly in biotechnology, he brings his scientific acumen, his analytical skills, and legal knowledge to serve clients in procuring patents, providing analysis on freedom-to-operate and patentability, and patent technology overviews, among other skills. He currently serves as Senior Counsel to Amgen, Inc. Previous to that position, he was Of Counsel with Lathrop & Gage in the Intellectual Property/Intellectual Property-Biotechnology & Life Sciences practice.

For five years, Greg was Director of Intellectual Property at Chromatin, Inc., a plant biotechnology company, where he was involved in all intellectual property aspects of the company, including managing and prosecuting an international patent portfolio, procuring trademarks, performing patent validity and freedom-to-operate analyses, negotiating and preparing licensing agreements, and other related tasks. Before Chromatin, he practiced with Dykema Gossett in Chicago, where he prepared and prosecuted patent applications in biotechnology, chemistry and mechanical arts, supported patent litigation, supported due diligence evaluations, and assisted start-up biotechnology companies.

In his free time, Greg enjoys working with various organizations that exploit his interests, including classical music. Since his relocation to San Francisco, Greg has joined the board of the San Francisco Civic Music Association, and has found a home on the Bay Area Leadership Council for Lambda Legal. He is very proud of, and maintains his association with the Chicago-based Lakeview Orchestra, where he was a co-founder, musician, and past board president. He also served the Chicago-based Classical Symphony Orchestra as a board member for many years.
