Ranno Nahku, PhD

MICROBIAL BIOPROCESS GROUP LEADER, CENTER OF FOOD AND FERMENTATION TECHNOLOGIES
TALLINN, Estonia
In his PhD thesis Ranno compared the microbial physiology in multiple continuous cultivation methods: changestats (pseudosteady state) and conventional chemostats (steady-state). It was demonstrated that when using the correct environmental (pH, temperature, feeding rate) change rate the pseudosteady state and steady-state data are similar.
After the defense, Ranno started to lead different applied science projects with industrial microorganisms. Focus points have been strain improvement with laboratory evolution, but most of the experience he has is concerning detailed microbial metabolism analysis. All the experience is realized in the cultivation service TFTAK is offering to industrial partners. We can optimize the growth of any microorganism with a comprehensive analysis of metabolic pathways. The knowledge helps us to design efficient medium screening and after that the final bioprocess. At the moment Ranno is the Microbial Bioprocess group leader in TFTAK.
