New Approaches to Reimbursement for Gene Therapy: What Can We Learn From Models Currently in Practice?

With the recent approvals of gene therapies and more on the horizon, panelists will look to explore real life examples of how payment and delivery systems are evolving to ensure timely patient access to treatments. This session will explore novel models that health systems are looking to incorporate including reinsurance, new pooling of patients, performance based contracting and utilizing high-cost chronic or rare disease payment funds. Various reimbursement strategies have been in discussion, yet some health systems are already moving forward with innovative and new approaches. Real examples will be provided to showcase how “innovative reimbursement” is occurring in practice and the barriers that still exist.
