Applikate's CHiMP pathology tissue processing and imaging platform eliminates the use of physical slides, revolutionizing the practice of pathology just as the digital camera changed photography. CHiMP turns a >16 hrs process with > 20 highly technical manual steps into a < 3 hr process that is completely automated. It produces direct-to-digital images from intact biopsy specimens with image quality superior even to the gold-standard physical slide, with fewer artifacts, in less time, with much less labor and for lower costs.
Applikate was spun out of Yale University by co-founders Dr. Michael Levene, an expert in optical microscopy, and Dr. Richard Torres, an anatomic pathologist. Dr. Eben Olson, who has worked with Drs. Levene and Torres for >15 years, rounds out the technical team. David Hunt, a serial entrepreneur with expertise in business, AI and intellectual property, joined the management team after leading the over-subscribed $2.6M Seed round in 2021.
