David is a Registered Patent Attorney in Australia and New Zealand. As a Director of Henry Hughes IP Ltd he heads the firms life science practice. Prior to joining the firm in 2009, David was a senior patent examiner at the Intellectual Property Office of New Zealand, supervising examination in both chemical, including pharmaceutical and biotechnology fields. After a period of stability in patent law in Australia and New Zealand, the last five years has seen significant change. David is abreast of all the changes, current and proposed, and leads the Henry Hughes response, both internally, and by way of submissions on proposed legislation. David has written and spoken extensively on patentable subject matter in Australia and New Zealand, including speaking at the BIO International Convention in 2015. David graduated from the University of Auckland in 2004 with a Bachelor of Science, majoring in Biological Sciences, and in 2007 with a Bachelor of Laws.
