Richard J. Shea Rich Shea has played a central role in the creation and growth of a series of start-up/growth companies over the last 20+ years. He currently works in an executive consulting capacity with several RTP area based emerging life sciences companies including Glycan Therapeutics. Previous to these engagements, served as Chief Executive Officer of Vascular Pharmaceuticals, a biotechnology company formed around intellectual property licensed from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. While at Vascular, Rich lead the transition from early stage academic start-up clinical stage biotechnology company. He secured financings in excess of $35M through two partnerships with Janssen and establishment of a VC syndicate including MPM Capital, Lumira Capital and Intersouth Partners. Rich earned his MBA at Duke’s Fuqua School of Business (Fuqua Scholar) and his B.S. at the University of Notre Dame (cum laude). He started his life sciences career at Merck and Co. Inc.
