Michael Ward, MS

Michael Ward serves as the Vice President of Public Policy for the Alliance for Aging Research. Michael advances investment in research for aging-related conditions through his leadership of the Alliance’s legislative and regulatory advocacy efforts. He directs the Alliance’s efforts to reduce patients’ out-of-pocket costs (Project LOOP) and co-leads the Accelerate Cures/Treatments for All Dementias coalition. Michael also represents the Alliance on the Innovation and Value Initiative (IVI) Patient Advisory Council and the Adult Vaccine Access Coalition (AVAC) steering committee.

Prior to joining the Alliance in 2020, Michael served as Director of Payment Policy at Premier, Inc., where he led engagement on multiple CMS Innovation Center models and created provider education efforts. He previously worked at the American Hospital Association, where he led advocacy-centered research addressing access, quality, health information technology, and reimbursement policy issues. Earlier, Michael worked at Avalere, where he advised post-acute and long-term care clients during the passage and the implementation of the Affordable Care Act. Michael began his career at HONOReform, a patient advocacy organization focused on preventing healthcare-acquired infections related to unsafe medical injection practices.

Michael holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Religious Studies from Vanderbilt University and a Master of Science degree in Public Policy and Management from Carnegie Mellon University.
