Reports to: Managing Director, Strategic Communications
Primary Purpose of the Position:
Provide media and public relations support for BIO’s advocacy around health policy and the cost and value of prescription medicines.
Responsibilities:
- Draft content supporting the organization’s health policy goals, including letters to the editor, op-eds, blogs and social media.
- Develop expertise in communicating complex policy concepts to broad audiences
- Help provide rapid response to breaking news and events
- Assist in developing story angles to advance the organization’s policy goals
- Provide proactive media outreach when requested
- Monitor news media and social media for breaking news and events
- Help assess on a regular basis the media landscape and identify opportunities to advance advocacy goals and communications priorities
- Identify target media outlets and create media lists
Requirements:
- Excellent communications skills, including writing and speaking skills
- Strong ability to be creative and generate new ideas for advancing the organization’s policy objectives
- Strong content creation skills, including the ability to create clear, compelling content regarding complex subjects
- Excellent research skills, including close attention to detail
- Works well in a team environment and is eager to learn and grow professionally
- 5+ years PR or media relations experience, including time dealing with strategic communications
- Bachelor of Arts degree
- Understanding of the legislative and regulatory policy processes a plus
- Experience in health care policy preferred
