BIO Statement on the Passing of Senator Ted Kennedy

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Wednesday, August 26, 2009) - Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) President and CEO Jim Greenwood released the following statement on the death of Senator Ted Kennedy (D, MA):

“BIO joins the nation in mourning the loss of Senator Ted Kennedy.  A dedicated public servant for more than four decades, Senator Kennedy was well-known for his leadership on health care issues in the Senate.  He was an indefatigable champion for universal access to health care as well as a strong supporter of government funding for medical research.  He worked to ensure that the U.S. continues to lead the world in biotech innovation and to bring the benefits of that innovation to patients.   We have lost a great leader and a legendary public servant.

"We send our sincere sympathy to his family, friends and colleagues.”
