BIO Welcomes Mississippi Biotechnology Association to Industry Council; Group Joins Coalition of 48 States and One Territory
WASHINGTON, D.C. (September 28, 2011) – Today the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) announced that a newly-formed bioscience organization in Mississippi has joined the Council of State Bioscience Associations (CSBA), an autonomous group of state affiliates operating within BIO.
“We are pleased to welcome the Mississippi Biotechnology Association (MS BIO) as a member of the CSBA," said Pete Pellerito, Interim Vice President of State Government Relations and Alliance Development at BIO. "The CSBA is integral to BIO's advocacy efforts, as we work to improve understanding of the bioscience industry and promote an environment that furthers economic development in Mississippi and throughout the United States.”
With the addition of Mississippi, the CSBA grows to 52 organizations in 48 states and Puerto Rico.
“MS BIO will continue to build upon our strong network as we attract new ideas, new people, and new investment. This partnership with BIO further validates and supports Mississippi’s emerging biotech presence,” said Dr. Leigh Ann Ross, President of MS BIO’s Board of Directors and Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs and Chair of the Department of Pharmacy Practice at the University of Mississippi School Of Pharmacy.
“MS BIO can now draw upon the support and expertise of a broad national group of organizations committed to a common goal,” said Chris Rivera, chairman of the CSBA and president of the Washington Biotechnology & Biomedical Association. “The CSBA’s network has been especially important over the last several years as state legislatures have weighed budget concerns against the need to maintain investment in this growth of this high-wage, high-growth, life saving industry.”
