WASHINGTON, D.C. (March 15, 2012) – The Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) announced today registration is open for its second-ever BIO Livestock Biotech Summit, scheduled for September 19-21, 2012, in Kansas City, MO. Focused on “Developing global solutions through animal biotechnology”, this unique conference will include workshops on the latest applications and benefits of genetically engineered animals for animal health, welfare, human health and food production.
 
 “Our inaugural Livestock Biotech Summit in 2010 was a tremendous success,” said David Edwards, PhD, director of Animal Biotechnology at BIO, “With continuous advances in both biomedical and food applications, we look forward to again bringing together the world’s leading industry, academic and government leaders in the fields of science and animal agriculture.”  
 
During three days of cross cutting discussions among industry, academic and government leaders, topics such as the regulatory process for genetically engineered (GE) animals and public and private funding opportunities will be covered.  Expert panels will focus on the science and benefits of GE agricultural animals for both food and biomedical applications as well as the regulatory hurdles and other challenges to advancing the technology.

All programs at the Livestock Biotech Summit are open to attendance by members of the media. Complimentary media registration is available to editors and reporters working full time for print, broadcast or web publications with valid press credentials. Valid press credentials include:
