Tenth Annual BIO CEO & Investor Conference Brings Together Industry Leaders and Investors

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Friday, February 15, 2008) - The Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) welcomed over 2,000 biotechnology executives and investors to its tenth annual BIO CEO & Investor Conference.

“Despite unsettled markets in the first part of this year, the record number of investors shows the continued strong interest in the biotech space, “ said BIO President and CEO Jim Greenwood. “The continued success of this event demonstrates the importance of gathering industry executives and investors together to learn about the upcoming investment trends and opportunities which will contribute to future innovation and success in our industry.”

This year’s conference featured six roundtable sessions, corporate presentations from more than 200 hundred companies (approximately 80% public, 20% late-stage private), ten therapeutic workshops, plenary sessions on business issues and industry trends, and numerous networking opportunities. In addition, more than 1,300 one-on-one meetings took place at the conference, which was held at the Waldorf=Astoria Hotel in New York City, February 11-13.

Top therapeutic categories represented at the event included cancer, CNS, infections, cardiovascular/circulatory, and auto-immune disorders, represented by companies from 17 US states and 10 countries.  The average marketing cap for presenting publically-traded companies is $435M, with a median market cap of $139M.

The BIO CEO & Investor Conference provides a forum for public and private equity investors, research analysts, investment bankers and senior-level industry executives to learn about and discuss investment trends and business development opportunities in the biotechnology industry.
