Primary Purpose

Biotechnology Innovation Organization (BIO) is the world’s largest advocacy association representing member companies, state biotechnology groups, academic and research institutions, and related organizations across the United States and in 30+ countries. BIO members are involved in the research and development of innovative healthcare, agricultural, industrial, and environmental biotechnology products. BIO also produces the BIO International Convention, the world’s largest gathering of the biotechnology industry, along with industry-leading investor and partnering meetings held around the world.

As a significant member benefit, BIO operates the BIO Business Solutions (BBS) Program, the largest cost-savings purchasing program for the biotechnology industry. BBS negotiates on behalf of BIO and other associations, significant discounts and other favorable terms on products and services from participating suppliers/partners. This position will help increase awareness and participation in the BBS program. We are seeking a candidate who is proficient in analyzing data, creating and implementing outreach and communication plans. 

The candidate will work with a variety of collaborators – other BBS staff, state & regional association staff, and BBS partners - to identify and prioritize opportunities to increase BBS visibility to help generate quality leads with member and non-member life science companies and to accelerate member enrollment and participation. Candidate will collaborate with the BBS staff and BBS partners to develop effective and measurable outreach campaigns that feature educational webinars, relevant partner content, web platforms, email, and social media.

ESSENTIAL Responsibilities

BBS Program Outreach

  • Proactive development of BBS’s outreach efforts, including identifying new promotional opportunities, analyzing the competitive landscape, and reporting findings with strategic recommendations.
  • Create specific content (web pages, emails, social media) and ensure review and quality control among relevant stakeholders.
  • Write monthly newsletter articles to engage members in timely, research-related topics and publicize, promote, and encourage participation in the BBS Programs.
  • Closely collaborate and coordinate with the BBS program partners marketing teams to create outreach content
  • Support segmentation, coordination, and scheduling of promotional messages about BBS to BIO membership through Marketo.
  • Maintain and customize BBS promotional material in InDesign, Adobe Acrobat.
  • Work with BIO’s marketing and communications department to ensure content on web, social, emails, etc. is up-to-date and correct.
  • Manage third party vendors providing marketing services, promotional material creation, data, list appends and source materials.
  • Ancillary Responsibilities: Carry out other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time in keeping with the purposes of BBS.

Data Analysis

  • Using member usage data and secondary research, gain in-depth understanding of landscape and segment market and audience to a) send relevant marketing content b) generate target accounts.
  • Leverage association management software (Fonteva), Salesforce, ZoomInfo, pipeline databases and other databases to develop and implement relevant targeted campaigns, with a focus on generating increased awareness of the BIO Business Solutions program.
  • Harvest data from web analytics and audience management tools.
  • Understand trends from large data sets, build models (from multiple data sources), develop actionable plans, summarize, and communicate information into management ready briefs and presentations.
  • Experience in query large datasets while working with marketing analytics tools and data sources.

Required Background, EDUCATION, and skills

  • Candidate will have an undergraduate degree (advanced degree preferred) in business administration, management, or marketing (statistics, mathematics, data analytics, data science, etc.).
  • Professional work record includes at least 7-10 years of experience in Program Management and/or marketing in the life sciences or association/nonprofit sector, Affinity Program management.
  • Proficiency in developing marketing strategies and campaigns that achieve concrete results and increase enrollment, participation, and revenue.
  • Computer savvy (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, PowerPoint, CRMs, and other databases). Should be highly proficient in Excel and ability to work with big data.
  • Proficiency in developing and maintaining effective metrics and dashboards to monitor the overall effectiveness of work campaigns.
  • A self-starter and proactive personality.
  • Strategic thinker that is ethical, leads by example and is comfortable working in teams.
  • Superb customer service skills with a capacity to build rapport and engender trust among strategic partners, member companies, BIO state affiliate network, and BBS program partners.
  • Strong organizational, verbal and written skills: tactful, professional and persuasive speaking manner.
  • Proficiency in HTML, website management, marketing software (e.g., Marketo) and email design.
  • Strong experience with marketing concepts and execution; relevant marketing experience required.
  • Good interpersonal skills working across departments and with partners.
  • Experience in R/Python data visualization libraries and PowerBI a plus.
