New BIO President Jim Greenwood to Address Investors and Industry Leaders

WASHINGTON, D.C. (February 10, 2005) -- New Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) President James C. Greenwood will share his vision of BIO on the opening day of the annual CEO & Investor Conference in New York City on February 23rd and 24th. His keynote address will be during lunch from 12:30 to 1:55 pm in the Grand Ballroom of the Waldorf=Astoria on Wednesday, February 23rd.

Greenwood will share his thoughts on the opportunities and challenges facing the biotech industry, and his goal of taking BIO to the next level as a world-class advocacy organization.

Greenwood represented suburban Philadelphia as a Member of the House of Representatives from 1993 to 2005. While Chairman of the Energy and Commerce Committee Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigation from 2001-04, he investigated issues ranging from bioterrorism to corporate governance. As a leader on health care issues, he authored many bills signed into law including legislation to promote pediatric labeling for pharmaceuticals, reform medical device review and approval, and expand research and establish innovative programs to address traumatic brain injury.

This year’s conference will include more than 200 presenting companies from the U.S., Europe and Canada. The conference will also feature “focused” panel discussions with company executives along with clinical, financial and regulatory experts who will present their views on the most promising developments in medical biotechnology for diseases and medical conditions such as hepatitis, lupus, cancer, HIV, diabetes and eye disorders. Industry experts will hold roundtable discussions on hot button business issues affecting the industry including commercialization strategies, value creation and emerging regulations from the Food and Drug Administration as well the Securities and Exchange Commission. One-on-one meetings will be arranged between investors and corporate management.

BIO represents more than 1,000 biotechnology companies, academic institutions, state biotechnology centers and related organizations in all 50 U.S. states and 33 other nations. BIO members are involved in the research and development of health-care, agricultural, industrial and environmental biotechnology products.
