Make History at BIO 2018

October 12, 2017
As we near the end of 2017, I’d like to take a moment to reflect on what an exciting time it’s been for the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry. It’s an important time to celebrate and highlight exciting innovations…and how we are making history every day.

Twenty-five years ago, a small group of visionary scientists met in a hotel room to talk about the vast potential of biotechnology to change the world as they knew it. From those talks, BIO was born. Today, our founders’ dreams are being realized, and millions of lives are being saved and improved as our companies commercialize breakthrough products that heal, feed and fuel the world.

We will always look back on 2017 as a year of significant breakthroughs in biotechnology. The first-ever gene-modifying immunotherapy was approved by the FDA, enabling doctors to take cancer-fighting T-cells from a patient, improve the cells through genetic modification and then insert them back into the patient so they can more effectively fight against leukemia. A pioneering small company is on the cusp of achieving a first-in-class FDA-approval for an RNAi-based drug that targets a rare genetic disease. And we are closer than ever to seeing FDA-approved treatments utilizing the revolutionary CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing technology.

These kinds of transformative innovations are just what inspired the 2018 BIO International Convention theme: “Make History.”

Next summer, we'll gather the global biotechnology community in Boston for BIO 2018 where our education program will nourish your mind and offer the opportunity to participate in the next generation of cutting-edge innovations. With your input, our convention program in Boston will tackle the critical topics that can help propel your company, and our industry, forward.

I would like to personally encourage you to submit a proposal during the 2018 BIO International Convention Call for Sessions and Speakers. Which topics will nurture innovation in 2018 or tell the story of how far we have come? Who are the thought leaders who will challenge and inspire you? Tell us who is making history.

You are among the leaders who envision a world free of disease, hunger, and pollution. BIO is committed to helping you develop the relationships and acquire the knowledge to bring that next big discovery to the world. Session and Speaker submissions are due by 5pm EST on Wednesday, October 18, 2017.

Thank you for your input and ideas to help us continue to make history.
