BIO Statement on USDA Finalizing Rule for National Bioengineered Food Disclosure Standard

December 20, 2018

“BIO thanks the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) for making the National Bioengineered Food Disclosure Standard a priority and finalizing the rule as directed by Congress.

“The final rule provides a mechanism for consumers to access clear, consistent and truthful information about food in a way that does not stigmatize the role of technology in food production. BIO is reviewing the final rule and looks forward to engaging with USDA officials as we work towards implementation.

“Advances in biotechnology have led to a more affordable and reliable food supply, foods with improved nutrition, and farming practices that are more environmentally friendly.

“We will continue to work with our partners in the agriculture and food value chain to communicate the role that scientific innovation plays in healing, fueling and feeding the world.”
