What do biotech companies need to consider as they develop their global growth strategy? Companies initially focus on a familiar market or region using their local expertise and infrastructure and as they mature, they look to expand to create greater market opportunities and scale, with the pursuit of making medicines accessible to more patients. While some of this is driven by organic growth via R&D and commercialization, business development could play a major role in providing geographic expansion through partnerships with co-development and/or co-commercialization, or through licensing/acquisitions to gain a footprint in new territories.
