Dr. John Hsu worked 29 years in anesthesia, chronic pain management, and addiction medicine. In his practice, he feared patients would misuse, divert, or even overdose on the opioids he prescribed. It was impossible to accurately monitor medication adherence. Dr. Hsu founded Quivivepharma to produce a combined opioid-respiratory stimulant oral pill to address opioid induced respiratory depression and abuse deterrence. He was awarded a $1.9 million 2 year NIDA NIH grant. He founded iPill Dispenser, a medical device, for medication adherence monitoring, secure storage, active control dispensing, and destruction of unused pills. He founded Fentavive, an oral abuse deterrent Fentanyl patch. In his past he co-founded NAOMI systems, a digital platform for practice management. He has 8 granted patents in digital medicine, medical devices and drug development.
