FOUNDER AND CSO, OCULOTHERAPY
Memphis, Tennessee, United States
I have broad scientific and leadership experience conducting research in corneal physiology, retinal cell biology, ocular genomics/systems biology and ocular drug formulations for nearly 30 years. As the Hamilton Professor at the Hamilton Eye Institute, I lead a research group focused on complementary aspects of ocular disease with the shared goal of developing therapies to reduce blindness in the world. In 2013, I founded OculoTherapy, LLC, where I serve as the Chief Scientific Officer. OculoTherapy holds the exclusive license to develop the technologies originally developed in my academic laboratory. We have a family of pending patents to protect our IP that are in various stages of execution. My team has secured multiple SBIR grants and an R24 grant from the National Eye Institute along with funding from the state of Tennessee, all of which are nondilutive. Collectively, my laboratory, the OculoTherapy team and our consultants possess the ability and skill to develop this technology through the end of Phase 2 clinical trials.
