Norma Avelar

SR. MANAGER, WORKPLACE SERVICES- BRAND PROJECTS, BEIGENE
Born and raised in El Salvador, Norma Avelar is a first-generation immigrant. She came to the United States at age 13 when her family fled the country in search of political asylum.
Her dream was to pursue a college degree, but her immigration status disqualified her from receiving any funding to support pursuit of this dream.
Upon graduating high school, she landed her first job as an Administrative Assistant/Receptionist at a non-profit organization in Providence, RI, while she continued learning the English language.
She landed her first role in the Biotech industry in 2015. It was then that Norma discovered how passionate she is about working for a company determined to positively impact the world as well as a company that takes diversity, equity, and inclusion seriously.
Norma currently works at BeiGene as a Sr. Workplace Services Manager overseeing the day-to-day operations of two facilities. As her role continues to expand, she is also developing and managing BeiGene’s e-commerce platform, which sells BeiGene-branded merchandise.
Norma aspires to inspire women, especially women of color, to see the best in themselves and to reach their full potential. Particularly, she encourages them to speak up and reminds them that their ideas and contributions matter.
In her spare time, Norma enjoys being outdoors, taking road trips with her three energetic sons, (and Golden Doodle, Kobe), and ensuring they stay close to their Latin roots.
