Sara Brown

DIRECTOR, GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS, PREVENT BLINDNESS
Sara D. Brown is the Director of Government Affairs at Prevent Blindness, overseeing all Congressional, public policy, coalition, and grassroots advocacy in Washington, DC on behalf of patients across the United States who live with vision loss and blinding eye diseases. Previously, Sara worked with Ward Circle Strategies, a public affairs firm, where she honed her communications skills while managing projects for one of the firm’s biggest clients – the Defense Health Agency – to develop public-facing communications deliverables on combat-related psychological health and traumatic brain injury. Sara gained in-depth, practical knowledge of Medicare and value-based physician payment policy and its effect on medical group practices while leading the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA)’s response to the Obama Administration’s implementation of the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 (MACRA), as well as through a role with NRC Health advising hospital executives on improving patient experience. Sara began her career working for over 6 years with U.S. Senators Jim Webb (D-VA) and Chuck Hagel (R-NE). A Nebraska native, she holds degrees in English and Political Science from the University of Nebraska-Kearney and a master’s degree in public administration, focusing on the role of government, nongovernmental organizations, and the private sector in defense and foreign aid policy, from Walden University. In her spare time, Sara is an avid paddleboarder and a self-trained distance runner, having completed over 15 marathons.
