TAMIL NADU is one of the pioneer states of India to identify the potential of the biotechnology and came out with the Biotechnology Policy in the year 2004 to promote the sector across the state. Tamil Nadu, is the first state in the country to set up a Pharma park in 1978 and already home to global pharmaceuticals and medical device manufacturers. It is now growing into an important center for medical equipment production. The Medical electronics industry has also witnessed double digit growth in recent years in the state. More than 400 Pharmaceutical companies specializing in bulk Drugs, API, Formulations and Medical Devices in Tamil Nadu. Nearly 100 institutes providing a range of Pharma & Biotech degrees and approximately 88,000 registered Pharmacists are there in the state. Tamil Nadu is an eco-friendly environment for setting up a biotech industry. National regulatory guidelines supports Biotech ecosystem in the state. There are seven central Drug Testing Laboratories in India under CDSCO (Central Drugs Control Standard Organization) for testing of drugs and Biologicals. TICEL BIOPARK LTD

TICEL Biopark Limited is a state – of – art Biotechnology Park established in 2004. TICEL Biopark is promoted by TIDCO (Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation) in technical collaboration with Cornell University, USA. TICEL Biopark supports Biotech ecosystem from their early stage of research to pilot-scale production by providing laboratory infrastructure and equipment support. TICEL BIOPARK located in Chennai and Coimbatore, which are the prime location of Tamilnadu.
TICEL Biopark at Chennai has a built up area of 0.5 million sq.ft in two buildings and TICEL, Coimbatore has a builtup area of 0.2 million sq.ft. Both the facilities are fully equipped with basic infrastructure for the Biotech ecosystem.

Major companies such as Biocon biologics, Teva pharma, Johnson&Jhonson, Levim biotech and PerkinElmer are located in Ticel Bio Park, Chennai.

Ticel Biopark, Chennai has Biotech Core Instrumentation Facility (BTCIF)

Jointly established by Government of India (DBT) and Government of Tamilnadu (TIDCO for providing scientific supports with high end equipment and testing facilities and carrying out their research / investigations by industry / Entrepreneurs for commercialization.
TICEL scientific team is carrying out Contract Research (CRO) & Contract Manufacturing (CMO) activities using the BTCIF facility. BTCIF clean room facility supports R&D and pilot scale production of neutraceuticals & biopharmaceuticals.
BTCIF supports ~60 startups in different domains of life sciences by providing equipment and technical support to carry out their R&D activities.

Clean room facility at TICEL, Chennai.

BTCIF clean room facility design conforms to ISO standards and enables research and bioprocess activities in various scientific disciplines such as microbiology, molecular biology, biochemistry and biotechnology. BTCIF clean room facility complies Biosafety level II with dedicated lab modules for Microbiology / Biochemistry / Molecular Biology / Animal cell culture / Upstream and downstream process. The clean room facility will support for both analytical and sterile bioprocess.

Bio - Incubation Centre at TICEL, Chennai.

The BTCIF facility promotes biotechnology by providing technology and equipment support to start-ups, thus minimizing large investments in the purchase of sophisticated equipments. TICEL has an incubation setup and offers fully furnished small lab space of 200 to 400 square feet to startups.
