The Walter Reed Army Institute of Research is the largest biomedical research facility administered by the DOD and the oldest research institution in the Army. Since 1893, WRAIR has been a global leader in solving significant threats to Soldier readiness and lethality such as infectious diseases and battlefield injury. WRAIR provides unique research capabilities and innovative medical solutions to a range of Force Health Protection and Readiness challenges currently facing U.S. Service Members, along with threats anticipated during future operations. WRAIR’s research network, includes the Center for Infectious Disease Research, the Center for Military Psychiatry and Neuroscience, the Center for Enabling Capabilities and four expeditionary medical research directorates in Africa, Southeast Asia, the Republic of Georgia and the state of Washington. The unit functions in concert to afford Warfighters the best medical protection and support possible before, during, and after deployment.
