BBC is bringing biotech to the fall lineup

We’re excited to join with the International Council of Biotech Associations (ICBA) for this exciting announcement: we’re working with the BBC on a documentary series highlighting the industry’s work to heal, feed, and fuel the planet, coming this fall.

The news: BIO and our sister organization, the International Council of Biotech Associations (ICBA), the coalition of biotechnology trade associations around the world, are working with the BBC on a new mini documentary series.

What: The series will highlight how the global biotech industry is solving some of the world's greatest health and environmental challenges, showcasing projects aimed at reducing carbon emissions and chemical use, fighting disease, and making farming and manufacturing more sustainable and efficient.

Who, when, where: Produced in conjunction with BBC StoryWorks, the creative arm of BBC Global News, the series will launch in Autumn 2020 as part of a multi-channel campaign to reach BBC.com’s 146 million unique viewers per month.

Why it matters: “Advances in the global biotech sector are providing solutions to some of the world’s most pressing challenges. And the success of this industry is largely based on global cooperation, exemplified by the number of cross-border projects to develop treatments and vaccines for COVID-19,” said Steve Bates, Chair of ICBA and CEO of the UK’s Bioindustry Association (BIA). And this series will play an important role in bringing the industry’s work to millions around the world—and dispelling myths about it.

Joe’s World: From biopharmaceutical researchers to biotech crop scientists to companies advancing the use of biofuels, the global biotech industry is pioneering innovations to improve the health of humans and the planet. We are very excited to partner with BBC StoryWorks to showcase this important work. – Joe Damond, BIO’s Executive Vice President for International Affairs
