Introducing Monica He

Monica HeBIO is pleased to introduce Monica He, the newest member of BIO’s International Affairs team. In her new role, Monica will be covering BIO’s international policy and outreach efforts in North Asia, including China and Japan, and will be working closely with public and private stakeholders to support the growth of the innovative biomedical industry in Asia.

Monica recently traveled to Japan, a top drug market and one of the first international markets that BIO members seek to place their R&D centers.  Monica met with officials from the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) as well as other stakeholders in Tokyo and had an opportunity to discuss the government’s long-term vision for health care in Japan, as well as policies for promoting and financing innovation.  As part of Japan’s Health Care 2035 Plan, the MHLW strives to become a world-class agency, one that facilitates growth and innovation.  As such, BIO is proud to be formally inviting MHLW Minister Yasuhisa Shiozaki and the MHLW Senior Leadership team to participate in the upcoming BIO Asia International Conference taking place March 14-15 in Tokyo, Japan.

While there have been positive growth-oriented economic reforms under the Abe Administration, as well as significant advances in Japan’s drug regulatory system, Japan’s plan to aggressively increase the pace and expand the scope of drug pricing review – with the details to be developed over the next 12 months – could have a chilling effect on the biopharmaceutical innovation and investment climate in Japan.  At the BIO Asia conference, attendees will learn more about changes, challenges, and opportunities in the Japan biopharmaceutical market from government officials and senior executives, while engaging with leading biomedicine development enterprises and research institutes in Asia.
