Vaccine Manufacturing in Africa: Challenges and Opportunities

11:00 AM - 12:00 PM (EDT), Tuesday, June 6, 2023 ・ Session Room 209
The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the need for more geographic diversity in the production capabilities for vaccines for both routine immunization and pandemic response. Multiple strategies for expanding manufacturing capacity are currently underway on the continent with the goal of supplying routine immunizations across the African countries and increasing resilience.

However, this is not something that Africa can do in isolation and the assistance of international partners is essential. This discussion will provide insight into the strategic plans to encourage vaccine manufacturing in Africa, the commitments made, the challenges experienced and the opportunities available for collaboration and finding new solutions.
