The Defense Threat Reduction Agency’s (DTRA) Chemical and Biological Technologies Department in its role as the Joint Science and Technology Office (JSTO) for Chemical and Biological Defense, an integral component of the Chemical and Biological Defense Program (CBDP), is the sole component of the Department of Defense responsible for research and development of technologies that safeguard the Joint Force, nation, and our allies from the threat of chem-bio weapons. DTRA JSTO provides capability development investments that maintain the U.S. military’s technological superiority in countering weapons of mass destruction and asymmetric threats, mitigates the risks of technical surprise, and responds to the Joint Force’s urgent technical requirements. We accomplish our mission by turning disruptive, ground-breaking discoveries into protypes and capabilities through collaboration with academia, industry, national laboratory, and government partners.
