CUT’s vision is to be “a leading African University of Technology, shaping the future through innovation.” The notion of CUT as a leading African University of Technology should be seen against the background of the University’s aspiration to be socially relevant and to have a positive impact on the socio-economic conditions of the community it serves.

The Centre for Rapid Prototyping and Manufacturing (CRPM) based within the CUT is the leading manufacturer of 3D printed medical devices in South Africa. Established in 1997, the CRPM aims to bridge the local medical device innovation gap for companies, clinicians and academia (both training and research), by providing access to state-of-the-art Advanced Manufacturing technologies, within an ISO13485 Quality Management environment.

CUT, through its DSI supported MedAdd technology demonstrator project and collaboration with key national stakeholders, is adding value to local manufactured medical devices, as well as developing unique solutions in Africa for Africa.

At the Product Development Technology Station (PDTS), we take new or existing ideas and convert them into products. As a technology station within the Technology Innovation Agency (TIA) technology stations programme, we provide a comprehensive product development service. Our services have been developed specifically to provide assistance to clients, innovators and entrepreneurs with a variety of solutions and concepts to effectively get their ideas to the market.

CUT - your safe space for medical device innovation!
