The U.S. Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine is the Army’s lead research component for Warfighter modernization initiatives focused on optimizing and enhancing Warfighter physical and cognitive performance in all environments. The institute conducts research studies of Warfighter performance utilizing basic science, applied laboratory, and field-based approaches. Since 1961, USARIEM continues to perform biomedical research, strategic development of Warfighter capabilities, and the development of applied physiological solutions that optimize and enhance the Warfighter’s physical, cognitive, and behavioral performance. USARIEM is a subordinate command of the U.S. Army Medical Research and Development Command under the Army Futures Command. Located at the Natick Soldier Systems Center in Natick, Massachusetts, USARIEM's mission is to optimize Warfighter health and performance through biomedical research.
