BIO Letter to White House on Need for Animal Biotech Reform in Wake of COVID-19

As part of the Administration’s comprehensive response to the unprecedented health and economic impacts from the COVID-19 pandemic, the Biotechnology Innovation Organization (BIO) respectfully requests that the U.S. government immediately reform its approach to oversight of animals with intentional genomic alterations. We are calling on the White House to direct the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to develop and execute a memorandum of understanding (MOU) clarifying regulatory responsibilities over these animals within 30 days.
