Brant Peterson, PhD

VP, FELLOW, DATA SCIENCE, VALO HEALTH
Brant Peterson is Vice President and Data Science Fellow at Valo Health. Prior to joining Valo, Brant jointly led a target identification and early discovery platform team in neuroscience at the Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research (NIBR), where he led both internal and external collaborations integrating human genetics and multi-omics, clinical and real-world data, and advanced iPSC-based in-vitro technologies, to identify and prioritize targets, biomarkers, and patient subpopulations in neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric disease.
Prior to this, Brant has worked in cross-disciplinary data science teams, blending software engineering, machine learning, and extensive domain expertise to accelerate project teams across all disease areas and program stages from discovery to clinical translation. Through this work, Brant developed a passionately-held belief that gifted scientists directing state-of-the-art tools at key problems in their areas of focus was not enough to bend the curve on the mounting complexity of drug discovery and development, and that a fundamental shift in how we capture, understand, and deploy data generated across the full cycle of discovery and development was necessary. Valo presented the opportunity to prove this thesis by building a fully-integrated therapeutic discovery and development platform where insights from computational biology, computational chemistry, and clinical data science are applied creatively at every stage of target identification and prioritization, molecular discovery, translational biology, and clinical development.
Brant's training is in Population Genetics, Quantitative Genetics, Machine Learning and Computer Vision (Harvard), Genomics, Molecular Evolution (UC Berkeley), Computational Biology, and Molecular Biology (U. of Pittsburgh)
