The Biotechnology Innovation Organization (BIO) is the world’s largest advocacy association representing biotechnology companies, state biotechnology centers, academic and research institutions, and related organizations across the United States and in 30+ countries.

BIO members are involved in the research and development of innovative healthcare, agricultural, industrial and environmental biotechnology products. BIO also produces the BIO International Convention, the world’s largest gathering of the biotechnology industry, along with industry-leading investor and partnering meetings held around the world.

We organize the BIO International Convention, the global event for biotechnology, along with many other industry-leading investor and partnering events held around the world. Arguably the industry’s leading partnering software, BIO One-on-One Partnering™ facilitates 50,000 face-to-face meetings each year among investors, biotechs, pharmaceutical companies, academic institutions and non-profits at live events.

 

The Position:

The Manager, Exhibit Sales & Systems, will join a team of professionals whose objective is to generate non-membership dues revenue by driving sales through exhibits, sponsorship, and advertising across all BIO events.  This position is responsible for selling exhibit space for the BIO International Convention and BIO Impact, Ag & Environment Conference, along with the supporting technology systems and processes.  Additionally responsible for advertisement and sponsorship sales, the Manage will cultivate and maintain relationships with customers by demonstrating solid sales tactics and providing outstanding customer service.  The ideal candidate is a self-starter who can close deals, has an exceptional and courteous customer service skillset, strong attention to detail, and works effectively in a team environment.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage relationships with current and potential companies and economic development offices to maximize customer satisfaction, including individual exhibitors, pavilions, sponsors, and advertisers.

 

  • Manage strategic sales plan development and execution working with internal departments including Marketing, Industry Programs/Education Operations, and Policy Teams.

 

  • Manage and execute booth and pavilion sales of ~285,000 net square feet for the BIO International Convention and smaller floorplans for subsequent conferences throughout the year

 

  • Manage acquisition and retention strategies to achieve or exceed non-dues revenue goals

 

  • Oversee the design of the exhibit hall at relative events, including collaborating with colleagues on show management spaces and negotiating pavilion/exhibit sizes and locations to optimize traffic flow.

 

  • Manage floorplan platform vendor to ensure BIO policies, financials, and other nuances are addressed and programmed timely and efficiently.

 

  • Oversee the contract and invoice process for all exhibit-related accounts. Work with support staff, the finance department, and IT team to ensure efficient and complete processing

 

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure benefit fulfillment for exhibit space, sponsorship, and advertising

 

  • Contribute new promotional sponsorship and advertising opportunities to increase marketable inventory.

 

  • Consistently deliver accurate sales forecasts and benchmarks.

 

  • Coordinate sales activity with the sales team through the database and contribute to the improvement of sales processes.

 

  • Provide creative input and become involved in all applicable event-related activities, ensuring a positive experience for all exhibitors and sponsors

 

  • Duties otherwise assigned.

 

Requirements:

  • Polished communication and presentation skills
  • Customer-focused and results oriented
  • Organized with good project management skills
  • Willing and able to travel
  • Ability to work as part of a team and able to create and enhance processes for improved team efficiency

 

Education & Experience Required:

  • CRM experience (Salesforce.com preferred)
  • Proficient with exhibit/tradeshow management platforms (MapYourShow)
  • Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PPT, etc.)
  • College degree or equivalent years of experience.
  • 5+ years of related work experience including at least 2 years of proven sales experience; preferably exhibit sales experience and working with associations and conventions.
